Lots of Interest for Running Against Souder

It looks to me as if Indiana's Third District Congressman, Mark Souder, is an opposition candidate magnet. I'm hearing lots of rumors that as many as four qualified individuals are putting out feelers about seeking the Libertarian nomination so they can run against him.

It's a long time until the Libertarian Party of Indiana convention (usually held in late April or May), but it is interesting to see the interest in running against this incumbent, as well as the interest being directed towards the Libertarian Party as a suitable political party from which to seek office.

Libertarian Party of Wayne County, Indiana Garage Sale September 5th - Also Football Season and Time to Man the Concession Stand and Take Tickets

Here's the latest announcement from the Libertarian Party of Wayne County, Indiana:

"Greetings Wayne County Libertarians and Friends;

What would September be without garage sales and football? Probably pretty boring, huh?

In order to alleviate that boredom, the Libertarian Party of Wayne County announces it's 9th Annual LPWC Neat Stuff Garage Sale, and our first concession stand gig of the new school year.

This year's sale will take place on Saturday, September 5th; Sunday, September 6th; and Monday, September 7th, at 17059 State Road 38, Hagerstown.

On Thursday, September 3rd, at 6:00 P.M., we will set up the tents and tables. We need as many people as we can get for an hour or two that evening.

On Friday, September 4th, starting at 8:00 A.M., we will be setting out merchandise. Our garage is already packed, and we have quite a bit more that we have yet to pick up. If you have something to donate to the sale, we would appreciate it if you could keep it until the sale weekend and then bring it in. If that is a problem, call me and we will work something out. We need a lot of help on Friday. Although we are not officially open until Saturday, our reputation for neat stuff brings in a lot of early shoppers, and the bargains they find gives us the much needed room to display more neat stuff.

Saturday, September 5th, is the big sale day. It starts at dawn and ends at dark. It's always a lot of fun. Come and spend as much time helping out and visiting as you would like.

Sunday, September 6th, is Bag for a Buck Day. We open at noon and close at dark.

Monday, September 7th, is Close-out and Tear-down Day. We will open at 7:00 A.M., and will start clean-up and tear down around 9:00 A.M.

This is our main fundraiser of the year, and along with the antics of the current office holders, will give our candidates a great boost in next years election.

Please mark these dates. I will be sending out more information later.

Also, we will be working the concession stand at the Hagerstown/Tri-High Football game on Friday, September 25th. We need 2 ticket takers at 6:00 and 6-8 concession workers at 6:15. Please keep this date open if you can help.

Thanks,
Rex Bell
Chairman, Libertarian Party of Wayne County"

Libertarian Party Worthy of Parody by Robot Chicken

Looks like we've made it! Heads up to John Meuser for pointing out this parody (http://is.gd/2bRK4) of the Libertarian Party by Robot Chicken on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. Being ignored is worse.

Republican Majority Indianapolis City-County Council Votes to Raise Taxes - Libertarian Votes "NO"

The Indianapolis City-County Council voted to raise the hotel tax in Indianapolis to 10%, thereby making it even more difficult for the city to get convention business by making Indianapolis' hotel tax one of the highest in the nation. This was done to raise more money for the Capital Improvement Board, the agency in charge of Indianapolis' public stadiums for corporate welfare scheme.

Here are the councilors who voted for the tax:

Republicans unless otherwise noted.

Cain
Cardwell
Cockrum
Day
Hunter
Lutz
Malone
McHenry
McQuillen
Nytes (Democrat)
Pfisterer
Plowman
Smith
Speedy
Vaughn

Here are the councilors who voted against the tax:

Democrats unless otherwise noted.

Bateman
Brown
Coleman (Libertarian)
Evans
Gray
Lewis
Mahern, B
Mahern, D
Mansfield
Minton-McNeill
Moriarty
Oliver
Sanders
Scales (Republican)

In Indianapolis, the city-council has recently voted to raise taxes both under Democrat and Republican majorities, thus evidencing that both the Democrat and Republican parties are "tax and spend" political parties.

Libertarian councilor Ed Coleman, a vocal opponent of the Capital Improvement Board, corporate welfare and building public palaces for politicians and CEO's, voted "NO".

In my personal experience, it is hard to get organizations to meet in Indianapolis. Granted, these are events for 15 - 200 people and not as large as the NCAA events for example, but they add up if we get lots of them. These organizations and their members are cost conscience too. They do compare tax rates when making a decision on where to meet for their events.

I hope this is not the case, but I suspect that the end result will be fewer tax dollars collected through this tax as smaller groups go elsewhere, such as the suburbs of Indianapolis.
