Once a year I try to go to a Cubs game in Chicago. Yesterday, I was able to do so with a bunch of great Libertarian activists (and one friend of a Libertarian activist).
Attending the game with me were Todd Singer, a District Representative on the LPIN Central Committee, his friend Jay Schnell, Marion County LP activists Tim and Allison McGuire and Missouri LP webmaster Glenn Nielsen.
It was a beautiful day and the weather was perfect for watching a baseball game. More importantly, I got to know several Libertarian activists much better.
It was great to talk with Glenn Nielsen and learn of the success the Columbia, Missouri Libertarians have had rallying Columbia small business owners to fight the attempts to impose a smoking ban on them. Glenn said that the support (50 - 60 small business owners at a council hearing) and publicity (print and television) was almost overwhelming (but pleasantly so).
Tim, Allison, Todd and I were able to talk about the good work of Abdul in the Morning on WXNT 1430 in Indianapolis. Abdul is conservative/libertarian in his beliefs, but while making his views known, is very fair to all guests despite their views, and treats them respectfully. He also makes an effort to get all sides to an issue involved as guests in his show. It makes for very good and informative radio.
Lastly, Todd won a baseball signed by Nomar Garciaparra of the Cubs!
