FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Schansberg publicizes "Tax Bondage Day"

According to The Tax Foundation, Americans work 77 days, on average, just to pay their federal taxes—including 33 days for income taxes and 30 days for payroll taxes. Thus, from October 16 th through the rest of the year, every dollar earned goes to Uncle Sam to pay for our federal government.

Schansberg noted: "This doesn't even include state and local taxes—or the 10 additional days you'd have to include to account for this year's federal deficit, and thus, future federal taxes. With a month of work to pay income taxes and another month to take care of payroll taxes, federal spending and taxation are simply too high—and must be drastically reduced. We're emphasizing this with a new radio ad this week, but this is a sad day to 'celebrate'."

In comparing himself to the other candidates, Schansberg said, "I'm clearly the only fiscal conservative among the three. I appreciate that Representative Sodrel doesn't even try to claim the label. But it's hilarious that Baron Hill tries to call himself a fiscal conservative. I suppose he can say he's fiscally conservative compared to other federally-elected Democrats. But that's like getting the best grade among students who flunk the course."

Baron Hill received D's and F's from the National Taxpayers Union (NTU) during his tenure. He averaged 13% from Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW)—and was consistently rated by them as "hostile" to taxpayers. Mike Sodrel received a B from the NTU and 69% from CAGW. Sodrel also voted for only 1 of 19 anti–pork amendments put forward by Jeff Flake (R-AZ) in the most recent session of Congress. Schansberg has committed to voting for the Flake amendments as well as earning an A from the NTU and a grade above 90% from CAGW.
