A Win in Wayne County - A Win in Henry County - A Close Call in Another Race - And Initial Analysis of the Rex Bell Race

Conley Tillson was elected to the Wayne County Clay Township Advisory Board!

Steve Coffman was elected to the Henry County Liberty Township Advisory Board!

And Julie Stout missed being elected by only 17 votes. Here's the unofficial results in her race:

TOWNSHIP BOARD MEMBER JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP
VOTE FOR ONLY 3
MARVIN L. CULY (REP). . . . . . . . . . .222 27.01%
CAROL GOAR (REP) . . . . . . . . . . . . .227 27.62%
EVERETT HAMPTON, JR. (REP). . . 195 23.72%
JULIANNE STOUT (LIB). . . . . . . . . . . 178 21.65%
Total . . . . . . . . . . 822

Rex Bell received 14% of the vote in House District 54. He won 6 of 57 precincts!

Here's the unofficial results from one of the precincts he won (Dalton Precinct in Wayne County):

STATE REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT 54
VOTE FOR ONLY 1
THOMAS E. (TOM) SAUNDERS (REP) . . . . 67 31.31%
DAVID G. SADLER (DEM) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .39 18.22%
REX BELL (LIB). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. .108 50.47%
Total . . . . . . . . . . 214

As best as I can tell, it appears as if the Republican’s spent over $100,000 in support of Sanders in the last 10 days or so. It also appears as if the Democrats spent over $50,000 in that same time period in support of their candidate (mind you - these are educated guesses, the end of year campaign finance forms of the R and D candidates, their state parties and their Indiana House committees will tell more of the story).

Unfortunately, the urban areas of Richmond and New Castle in his district voted poorly for Rex - it was no surprise it would be tough in those precincts - but a surprise how poorly he did. As expected, the precincts around the incumbent's home town of Lewisville did not vote for Rex.

Thanks to many generous donors, Rex and the Libertarian Party were able to keep from being overwhelmed and made it into a very exciting race for all three candidates.
