BILLION DOLLAR BUDGET SHOWS INCOMPETENCE
Timothy J. Maguire, a Libertarian At-Large Candidate for City-County Council,
points out that the council ignores reason and simply throws more money at the problem.

Monday night, the full City-County Council passed the mayor’s proposed $1 billion budget mostly intact. At-Large Council member Ron Gibson pleaded with the taxpayers that the budget “is as lean as we can get.” Timothy Maguire, one of the four Libertarian challengers to the current At-Large members, isn’t surprised.

“When they keep asking for more money every year, it becomes obvious that they are fiscally incompetent. They don’t even seem concerned that the budget will operate at a $19 million deficit next year,” Timothy says. “Libertarians, along with other concerned citizens, have given the council quite a few ideas on how to trim government, but the current council is unresponsive.”

Over the past months, Timothy Maguire could be found at the tax protests, rallies and forums, asking voters to support him in his campaign for lower taxes. He suggests that local government has lost its way, spending money on luxuries while ignoring important issues like police and fire pensions, city streets, and water and sewer lines.

The Libertarian Party is the third largest political party in the United States, and is the only non-major party with ballot access in the state of Indiana. Libertarians believe in being SERVED by a small non-intrusive government that is financially responsible, administratively competent and socially tolerant.
