I received this from the Marion County Libertarian Party email list, edited by Kurt St. Angelo:
"Last-minute Elrod-campaign lies
I received a call this morning on my home answering service from the Jon Elrod campaign, asking me to vote for him tomorrow. The telephone script called Elrod "the only candidate in the race" for a smaller government and lower taxes.
Having participated in a handful of candidate forums with Libertarian Sean Shepard, Elrod and his campaign staff know that these statements are patently false. Libertarians, including Sean Shepard, are the only candidates who consistently and uniformly call for smaller government and lower taxes.
To correct his campaign's misrepresentations, it is incumbent on Elrod to publicly retract its false statements and set the record straight - that small government and low taxes are the benchmarks of libertarianism.
Is this dishonesty what citizens of the 7th District should expect from Jon Elrod and his staff? The citizens deserve a representative with more integrity. - ed."
I got the same script from the Elrod campaign when it called my house yesterday.
The problem is the words "the only candidate in the race". I'd have little problem with his script if he claimed he was for smaller government and less taxes. However, he doesn't go as far as I'd like, and the party banner under which he runs has a long history of claiming it's for smaller government and less taxes, as it grows government and raises taxes.
Elrod is an honorable man. I've talked with him on many occasions. I think he'd be a decent Congressman but I prefer Sean Shepard. I hope this is a campaign mistake done in the "fog of war" and Elrod makes sure it is corrected.
However, a lot of Elrod's campaign staff have been accusing Libertarians of hurting Elrod. In fact, they have been quite nasty about it. I have a feeling that Elrod's campaign staff has done this intentionally.

I think the biggest Elrod lie is that he claims he will be our "backyard" "neighborhood" Congressman, yet is willing to abandon his statehouse responsibility during one of the most critical sessions in decades that will have a direct impact on neighborhoods.
He abandoned them DURING the session to campaign and will leave the session early if he's elected. Right before that all important final week of legislation.
Wonder how his neighbors in his backyard will fare with the property tax legislation of 2008?
It does not appear by watching Elrod's actions that he thinks twice about his constituents, but rather is thinking of himself.
Actions, not words, are what counts.
