County Board of Tax and Capital Projects Review (Capital Projects Board) - Another Opportunity for Libertarians

Jim Staley, 6th District Representative on the Central Committee of the Libertarian Party of Indiana, today issues this release:

"In the fall election, each county (except Marion) will elect 2 people to serve on the newly formed "County Board of Tax and Capital Projects Review". The election will be non-partisan, with each elected candidate serving a 4 year term. In order to file candidacy for this office, you must file a CAN-25 with 100 signatures of registered voters from your county. The first day to file is July 23, 2008 with the last day being August 22, 2008 at noon. Also worth noting was the following statement: "A member elected may not be, or have been during the preceding year, an officer or employee of a political subdivision." All of this information came from the Henry County Voter Registration Office, and the Secretary of State web site. If you find anything to be in error, please don't shoot the messenger! Thanks!"

The County Board of Tax and Capital Projects Review (Capital Projects Board) consists of nine members, two of whom are elected by the voters of each county (except Marion) to four year terms. Click here to learn more about the Capital Projects Board.

Lastly, non-partisan means that you must get signatures from registered voters to appear on the ballot (as opposed to party conventions or primaries), and that candidates are not identified by their political party affiliation on the ballot.

Political parties can openly support candidates in non-partisan races and candidates can openly identify with political parties in non-partisan races, even on yard signs, etc. It's that "pesky" 1st amendment again that helps to have "truth in advertising" even though the socialists in the Republican and Democrat parties prefer the non-partisan races because it is easier to hide the fact they are socialists.

I am pretty sure the property tax legislation form 2008 did away with these boards before they ever started.

Anonymous - check the link in the post to the government site - this board is new (2008 law) and replaces the previous system with a board that is mostly by appointment, but has two positions elected by the voters in the county.

I'm back.

this link from the article:
http://www.in.gov/dlgf/news/capital-projects.html

takes me to a "Sorry the page you requested can't be found" message.

Looking at the IASBO summary of the parts of HEA1001 that apply to public education they list IC 6-1.1-29-1.5 the Indiana Code forming County board of tax and capital projects review as a repealed statute.

You can find a PDF of this publication at http://www.indiana-asbo.org/pdf/HEA%201001.pdf

Not trying to be contrary, just trying to helpful.
