I received the following from Paul "Patriot Paul" Wheeler, an Indianapolis property tax reform advocate:
"PROPERTY TAX CAP SLAVERY
One of the attempts to fix the property tax fiasco was to shift the burden of homeowners and those affected to the State, forced shaving of spending by local taxing units, adding a 1% increase to the State tax, and inventing 1-2-3 Caps to be passed by 2 legislatures, and then voted by the people for passage into the Constitution. Sounds good? Take a step back and ask yourself why we would reconfirm this slavery by disguising it as tax relief. Politically conceived from months back and foisted upon the legislature for ‘compromise’ in a 2 ½ month short session to those whose constituents were clamoring for change and placating those who favored a total repeal of this unfair and broken system, many have bought the package of these chains albeit calling different links in the chain as a 1% homeowners, 2% farms, 3% farm inventory, business and commercial. This discriminatory class warfare standard will permanently enslave Hoosiers to property tax forever, and exemplifies a specialized Constitutional power that we the people will give to our master-legislators for their delight in the great deception that forfeits our citizen rights in favor of the government’s pursuit of happiness.
We are asking Rosa Parks not to give up her seat, but remain seated with a ball and chain that will be her legacy for permanent slavery, and she is to sit there forever and pay a tribute to the state while thanking her master for their State generosity.
We are asking farmers to become chained to 1% for his homestead acre he lives on, 2% for all his other acres, barns, sheds, pastures, and 3% for any farm equipment, and then say what a good deal on his way to the poor house by his new Farmer’s Constitution laying beside the Farmer’s Almanac.
We are asking businesses to become chained to 3% simply because they are a business, as they take notice, dismiss employees, close the doors, and move from the county over this ridiculous new found document called a ‘Commercial Constitution’ that categorizes groups between individuals and businesses into a ‘unfair’ and ‘unequal’ status.
Taxpayers’ money is being used by the millions in attempting to fix the unfixable: Assessments, Re-assessments, and massive local taxing units borrowing with interests from the Bond bank, consigning future generations to a financial oppression that will bind them forever while creating constant upheaval among the citizens continually taking to the streets in protests.
Hard working Hoosiers should not be saddled with a future slavery or be satisfied with the advertised notion that this is ‘final’. Nor should they convince themselves that our lawmakers’ assertions are any more credible than the previous milestones that failed to provide relief. We will wake up some day and discover we have bought a prescription that was mislabeled and did us in.
Patriot Paul"
