Republican Ben Hunter is at Best a Moral Busybody - All Hail the Morally Superior Ben Hunter - We Bow Before Your Moral Superiority

“Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”-C.S. Lewis

Indianapolis City-County Council Ben Hunter, a Republican, is at best a moral busybody. He has introduced a smoking ban proposal designed to undo the perfectly fine compromise smoking ordinance of 2005.

(Sarcasm on) - However, he knows better than all of us, for he doesn't want people smoking anywhere even when they consent to it and is going to force a stop to smoking in all private businesses. All hail Ben Hunter and your fellow Republicans who support you for you are wise moral busybodies who love power and controlling the lives of people. All hail Ben Hunter for we can not live without your guidance and moral superiority. All hail the wonderful Ben Hunter, the man behind the curtain! (Sarcasm off).

Actually, I wish Ben success. I hope y'all get more oppressive nonsense than you can tolerate so that you'll pick up and move to the new Texas Republic.

Tonight there is a public hearing regarding the smoking ban at the Indianapolis city-county council building. The smoking ban includes electronic cigarettes. This make no sense whatsoever. If the goal is public health then electronic cigarettes should be heralded. There is so much misinformation being put out about them. I am completely smoke free after 27 years thanks to them. I even choose to use non-nicotine liquid in mine so I am nicotine free as well. There is no odor and they bother no one. A huge deal has been over the fact that they contain propylene glycol which is an ingredient in anti-freeze. It is also an ingredient in hand sanitizer, lotions, tooth paste, and mouthwash just to name a few. In the ban they exclude the burning of incense which produces smoke but omit banning vaporizors used in health care facilities and special effect "mists" used in theater productions and at Halloween. This is the same vapor they are so worried about in electronic cigarettes. They want to ban the solution along with the problem the are trying to address. If they are determined to stop smoking then why are they trying to ban the one product that the smokers can safely use to replace smoking? If this goes through then in Indianapolis a person will not be able to walk downtown (less than 25 feet from a doorway) use a device that causes them to exhale a water vapor mist. This is insane! The electronic cigarette does the one thing that no other device or drug has been able to do. It mimics the ritual of smoking which is why it is very easy to trade tobacco smoking for
"vaping" as it is called. Not only is it monumentally safer than tobacco it solves the smoker's problem of constantly plotting when and where to be able to get their next "fix". This is great for business owner as the smokers will stay inside and linger longer. Productivity will increase as "smoke breaks" can be eliminated. Indianapolis need to educate itself about this product and not become the most restrictive place in the country to use a safe alternative to smoking.

Close to 90% of the weight of tobacco smoke is composed of oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and plain water (1989 Report of the Surgeon General p. 80). This mix is usually called “fresh air.” For this we take away property rights? So that someone’s smoke-free preference can trump an owners rights?
Big pharma is nothing but a tax exempt contractor, that hires through grants of enormous amounts of money for tobacco control, organizations like the American Cancer Society, ASH, Tobacco Free Kids, etc., also tax exempt, as Perception Management firms. They are paid to create "truth". Created truth is controllable. PM uses select information involving falsehood and deception. Really smoke and mirrors to get people to believe what they want the "truth" to be. Not to be confused with public diplomacy, Perception Management as a rule uses deception to influence emotions to an end. The difference between real and perception is like a stick of dynamite and the A-bomb. Wars can be created using Perception Management! Everyone, really, has seen PM in practice, and small business owners are experiencing this with legislation against their Constitutional rights. It requires absolutely no courage to support a popular position, even if completely wrong or illegal.
I see on the RWJF website they are after tobacco, obesity, and alcohol! Buying smoking bans kills two birds with one stone. Shut down bars at the same time with smoking bans! Brilliant marketing scam using our own government against us business owners. Also going after "obesity". I see now they are banning school bake sales somewhere. What ever happened to Free To Be, You And Me? When will we say enough is enough in the name of freedom?

I used to live in Indpls and have thought about moving back when life allows. With a ban, NO WAY. No smoke = No go and I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Free choice and signs. Made in the USA.

Guess again. NOBODY is 'nicotine free' unless they also give up potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, brocoli, sweet potatoes, chocolate, tea, and all the other foods which naturally contain nicotine. And that's just the short list. We are being SCAMMED. It is NOT about nicotine - it's about SMOKING - and about 70 million Americans are NOT going to give it up - because we DON'T WANT to. www.forces.org

To the person who won't consider moving back to Indy if a smoking ban is enacted...good luck finding someplace to live, man. I can't believe Indy hasn't banned it yet. Pretty much every other city (if Indy even counts as a city) and many states have. Smoking is gross. Period.
