The Indianapolis Metropolitian Police Department is working hard to get the last drop of federally funded overtime for seat belt check points before they are prohibited from doing so on July 1st. They will have a seat belt check point at 38th and Meridian in Indianapolis at 8 p.m. tonight.
This is a bare bones example of how police administrations now set priorities - they will do whatever the grant givers want - not what needs to be done for safe streets.
Perhaps this helps explain the rising crime rate in Indianapolis?
Lastly, I've known a lot of police officers. Most become police officers because they want to help people. This is a very noble reason, and I commend them. Unfortunately, most become cynical because they quickly learn that law enforcement is really about money and power, not helping people. They quickly learn to either get their 20 years in for a good pension, and then at age 45 start their second careers, or quite.
What an unethical system for law enforcement.

Any idea if it's possible to sue the government over those commercials saying that all over the country police are cracking down and there's no where to hide, etc.?
New Hampshire doesn't have a mandatory seatbelt law for adults and is the only state left. They just yesterday shot down another attempt at this law.
It seems that those commercials would be false advertising and denying the New Hampshire advantage.
I'd really like to file a lawsuit or something to make them pull that ad.
It does sound like false advertising to me. Not to mention the fact that if you haven't harmed anyone there is no crime, and thus no legitimate reason for the police to forcefully halt your travel and force you to identify yourself. According to the Fourth Amendment, they cannot search you without a warrant, based on a sworn testimony from a corroborating witness.
The biggest lie on those ads is that the police write tickets to save lives. No they write tickets to generate revenue.
Ben its a sad fact but the Fourth Amendment is dead!
