Indiana was well represented at the Libertarian Party Region 3 conference in Dayton, Ohio last weekend. Indiana had the following Libertarians there:
1. Cyrus Hayat, Indianapolis
2. Doug Horner, Fort Wayne
3. Melanie Hughes, New Albany
4. Gregory Hertzsch, Clarksville
5. Jennifer Jeffrey, Fort Wayne
6. Rebecca Sink-Burris, Bloomington
7. Jim Staley, New Castle
8. Rex Bell, Hagerstown
9. Phil Miller, Greenfield
10. Mark Rutherford, Indianapolis
It was a good conference. The Leadership Institute presented programs on Grassroots Organizing & Communications, as well as Fund Raising. LNC Legal Counsel Bill Hall of Michigan presented a program on FEC, BICRA and Other Legal Considerations for State Parties. Past national chairman James Lark of Virginia was the Saturday evening banquet speaker. Current national chairman William Redpath of Virginia spoke at the program. LNC member M Carling of New York spoke on Avoiding Hostile Takeover. National vice chair Chuck Moulton of Pennsylvania was in attendance, as well as LNC member Patrick Dixon of Texas.
Emily Salvette, Region Three LNC member, coordinated the event along with her committee of Jeffrey from Indiana, Nathan Allen of Michigan, Ken Moellman of Kentucky and Robert Butler of Ohio. Emily and her crew did a great job.
I was able to catch up with Andy LeCureaux of Hazel Park, Michigan. Andy is seeking his fourth consecutive term on the Hazel Park, Michigan City Council. I learned a lot from him about his experiences mixing governing with abiding by Libertarian precepts.
It was a good first conference for the region, and far exceeded my expectations. I'm looking forward to the next one.
